It is well known that titanium plate is an important metal material and has a wide range of uses. According to the requirements of different fields, the thickness of titanium plates ranges from 0.1mm to 35mm.
Usually the thinner thicknesses are: 0.1mm, 0.15mm, 0.2mm, 0.3mm, 0.4mm, 0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, etc. Thicker titanium plates can reach 10mm, 20mm, or even thicker. Titanium plates can also be further subdivided according to thickness into thick plates (thickness greater than 25.4mm), titanium medium plates (thickness 4.76-25.4mm), titanium thin plates (less than 4.76mm)
1. Characteristics of titanium plates
(1) Strong corrosion resistance
Titanium plate has extremely strong corrosion resistance, especially in oxidizing media. It is not easy to rust and can be used for a long time in harsh environments, so it is widely used in chemical industry, marine engineering and other fields.
(2). High strength, low density
Titanium plate has the characteristics of high strength and low density, which makes it an excellent lightweight and high-strength material. Compared with aluminum alloys, titanium plates have higher strength but only about half the density, so they are widely used in aerospace, automobile manufacturing and other fields.
(3). Good biocompatibility
Titanium plates have good biocompatibility and can be fully accepted by human tissues, so they are widely used in medical fields, such as dental implants, artificial joints, etc.
(4). High temperature resistance
Titanium plates can work at high temperatures and can maintain their excellent mechanical properties even at temperatures around 600°C. This makes it widely used in high-temperature environments such as high-temperature furnaces and aerospace engines.
2. Uses of titanium plates
(1). Chemical industry
In industrial fields that have higher requirements for material corrosion resistance: such as manufacturing chemical equipment, storage tanks, pipes, valves, etc. Titanium plates have extremely strong corrosion resistance and can be used for a long time in harsh chemical environments.
(2). Aerospace field
Such as manufacturing aircraft fuselages, engine parts, bolts, etc. Because titanium plates have the characteristics of high strength, high corrosion resistance and light weight, they can reduce the weight of the aircraft and improve the fuel efficiency of the aircraft, thereby reducing environmental pollution.
(3). Medical field
Such as manufacturing prostheses, dental implants, surgical tools, etc. Because titanium plates have good biocompatibility and can fully combine with human tissues without generating rejection reactions, they have been widely used in the medical field.
(4).Other fields
In addition to the above fields, titanium plates are also widely used in construction, automobiles, electric power and other fields. In the construction field, titanium plates can be used as decorative panels, roofing materials, etc.; in the automotive field, titanium plates can be used to make lightweight bodies, engine parts, etc.; in the electric power field, titanium plates can be used to make coolants for nuclear power plants, etc. .
3. Titanium plate production method
There are two production processes for titanium plates: hot rolling and cold rolling.
(1). Production of hot-rolled titanium plates:
During hot rolling, the temperature is high and the pass reduction is large. It is suitable for the production of medium and thick plates. The temperature window for titanium processing is narrow. Hot rolling requires a hot rolling mill with a larger tonnage and a high-precision, high-temperature heating furnace. Lamination rolling is mainly used in the production of wide thin plates, while cladding rolling is mainly used in the production of titanium alloy thin plates.
(2). Production of cold-rolled titanium plates
Titanium plate cold rolling has three main characteristics:
① The work hardening is more significant than that of ordinary metals, and the deformation resistance is large;
② During the cold rolling process, the rolls bear great pressure, produce large elastic deformation, and wear quickly, which is prone to uneven deformation, causing cracked edges and uneven dimensions of the plate;
③ In order to obtain products with high surface quality, it is required to use high-finish rolls and slabs with good surface conditions, and also requires good lubrication conditions.
4. Titanium coil production
Roll-type production is the most effective method to produce titanium plates, low-alloyed titanium alloy sheets, and titanium strips with high efficiency, high quality, and low cost. The advanced production line should include a hot continuous rolling coil system; a large-scale cold rolling system; a continuous sandblasting, pickling, oil removal, and water washing system; a vertical tension continuous annealing system and a continuous surface treatment system.
Summarize:
In short, titanium plate, as an important metal material, has a variety of unique characteristics and a wide range of applications. In the future, with the continuous advancement of science and technology and people’s increasing requirements for material performance, titanium plates will be used in more fields and play a more important role.
